The initial launch of ESP Cryogenhooks in March 2016 caused a massive stir with discerning anglers quickly recognisingthe distinct technical advantages they offered. They were the result of overthree years of development and field testing which culminated in a new standardin strength and point durability.
New manufacturing techniquesincluding both high temperature and cryogenic tempering have producedsignificantly stronger hooks with more durable, long life points.
Cryogenic tempering is a processused to improve the molecular structure in steel which in turn reduces stressand improves strength and wear resistance. It is used in many disciplines withFormula 1 engine parts being a classic example.
Bench tests on initial samplesproved to us that the new tempering processes combined with improved designsand heavy forging resulted in hooks that were 25-30% stronger than other PTFEcoated carp hooks ? in the same wire gauge. We subsequently sent the hooks forindependent scientific testing on hardness and tensile strength and the testscarried out confirmed and supported our initial findings.
So rather than having to improvestrength by simply increasing wire gauge, new manufacturing processes haveallowed us to maintain optimum wire gauges for each size which allow for fine,ultra-sharp needle points which are now more durable than ever.
ESP are now delighted tointroduce three new patterns into the Cryogen range, with each type having beendeveloped, tested and ?tweaked? over the last 18 months. They have provedoutstanding in field testing and provide an even greater choice in highperformance, long lasting carp hooks
This is the absolute ?enforcer?of the range. The medium length shank, with an almost crystal bend and inclinedpoint make this an incredibly strong shape, further enhanced by the heavyforging and Cryogen tempering process.
The long, fine needle sharppoint, further enhanced by the slick Tufflon coating ensures excellent hookholds and the straight eye allows this pattern to be highly versatile as abottom bait or pop up hook, with or without a kicker. The straight eye makes itespecially effective for a Tungsten Loaded ?D-Rig? where the straight eye actsto increase the gape. The ?Para? has already become a real favourite amongstour testers and looks set to be the ?go to? all-rounder for years to come.
