Kama Kote is a compound which has been specifically designed to prevent the corrosion of hook points, particularly those which have been sharpened. Once you remove the outer metallic coating from a hook point by sharpening it or by removing the protective wax that we use on the Kamakura range it can quickly become tarnished or begin to corrode as it oxidises or is exposed to the chemicals which occur in water, and this will take that ultra-sharp edge away. To prevent that happening, dip your hook point in Kama Kote, which is both odourless and transparent in water, and isnt petroleum based (unlike Vaseline).
